"ME research in genetics is 20 years behind the times"

April 04, 2024

Channel 4 News speaks to Jo, a participant of DecodeME, the world's largest genetic study of ME.

Jo discusses the devastating impact that ME has had on her's and her family's lives, alongside the hope that the DecodeME study brings for people with ME.

Professor Chris Ponting and other members of the DecodeME study team speak on the importance of the study itself and the lack of research into ME, with Chris saying:

"ME research in genetics is 20 years behind the times. Why is it that we've not been able to pour our resources into this awful, awful disease when it costs the country billions of pounds a year and yet, only £2-3 per person is given for research?"
