Super-saver Margaret has an eye for bargains
Super-saver Margaret Young, an ME patient from South Shields, who spends just £12 a week on food, has been dubbed Tyneside’s most prolific bargain hunter. Among the 57-year-old grandmother of four’s money saving tips are: re-filling half empty full fat milk cartons with water to make ‘home made skimmed’ and pouring left over boiling water from her kettle into a thermos flask to use throughout the day. She has also already started Christmas shopping.

Diary of a somebody
A writer and editor who spends most of his time in bed due to severe M.E. and other illnesses has told how writing a diary, often about non-illness related thoughts and reactions to news items, has helped him cope with his condition. Scott Jordan Harris, who edits the Spectator’s arts blog, writes: ‘My life has sometimes fallen to depths of boredom the Birdman of Alcatraz would find intolerable, but I find something to write about every day.’

Drug application granted
The Food and Drug Administration in the United States has granted the biopharmaceutical company Hemispherx Biopharma an extension to modify its application for a new drug for CFS patients. Hemispherx said they were working for the approval of Ampligen and an accompanying diagnostic test for CFS.
