Equality Act 2010

08 October 2010

Disability discrimination laws revised

This month the Equality Act 2010 came into effect, replacing nine previously separate pieces of legislation. The act also replaces major parts the Disability Discrimination Act.

Drafted by the previous Labour Government, the act has revised the law regarding discrimination arising from disability, including indirect discrimination and discrimination by association.

More information about the Equality Act 2010 can be found at Direct.gov and the Government Equalities Office. The Guardian has also produced A Guide to the new Equality Act.
