Adults receiving social care in Wales

National Statistics for Wales report a 5% drop in adults receiving home care in September 2010 compared to the same month in 2009.

They report that for the period 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011:

  • local authorities in Wales assessed the needs of 82,900 adults
  • at 31 March 2011 there were 79,300 adults receiving services. 83 per cent were receiving community-based services and 17 per cent were in care homes. 68 per cent of clients receiving community-based services were aged 65 or over. Half of the people in care homes were aged 85 or over
  • during a sample week in September 2010, 21,800 people received home care. This is a fall of 5 per cent compared to the previous year, with the largest decrease in the number of people receiving more than 20 hours of care.
