English NHS structural reform on pause

7 June 2011

On Friday the government published May progress updates for its Structural Reform Plans.

The Department of Health report confirms that implementation of key reform actions has been paused until after the completion of the NHS listening exercise on proposed NHS reforms for England.

The NHS Future Forum - a group of clinician, patient and voluntary sector representatives chaired by Professor Steve Field, former Chairman at the Royal College of GPs - will submit its report on the listening exercise to the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and the Health Secretary this month.

Government will consider the Forum’s findings then publish an official response.
