Changes to Blue Badge scheme now in place

9 January 2011

Reforms to the Blue Badge disabled parking scheme, announced by the Government last year, came into force in England and Scotland on 1 January. Changes in Wales will come into force in April.

The reforms aim to prevent fraudulent use of the disabled parking scheme by introducing Blue Badges with security features including a unique hologram, a digital photo of the user and a serial number that can be easily identified by parking wardens to check that each badge is genuine.

Applications for a Blue Badge can now be made online. For a guide on applying, see our Publications section.
