UK research, published online today, has suggested that there is no causal link between XMRV and chronic fatigue syndrome.
A press release, issued today by University College London (UCL), says ‘cell samples used in previous research were contaminated with the virus identified as XMRV and that XMRV is present in the mouse genome.’
The study, undertaken by scientists from UCL, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Cambridge and the Department of Zoology, University of Oxford, was published online in Retrovirology, entitled Disease-associated XMRV sequences are consistent with laboratory contamination.
