Psychiatrists’ session on CFS/M.E.

The International Congress of the Royal College of Psychiatrists 2011 will hold a session on CFS/M.E. when it meets in Brighton, 28 June-1 July.

The programme gives the title of the session as: If only we could find the brain lesion we could tell patients it is not all in their head - CFS-ME moving from rhetoric to science.

Dr Alan Carson, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, Edinburgh will discuss: Diagnostic assessment - physical, psychological and laboratory.

Professor Myra McClure, Professor of Retrovirology, Imperial College, London will talk about: XMRV - the story of a retrovirus.

Professor Peter White, Professor of Psychological Medicine, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, will describe: An evidence based approach to treatment.

Dr Carson was a member of the professional group which reviewed the Scottish Good Practice Statement on ME-CFS for NHS Scotland.

Professor White is lead researcher on the PACE trial.
