Working Tax Credit

Working Tax credit is available to people who are employed or self employed on a low income, who meet certain criteria.

You can claim via the ‘disability element’ if either you or your partner’s health condition means that you are at a disadvantage in getting a job, eg. you can only work part time (to qualify you must be working at least 16 hours per week).

You also need to have been getting a ‘qualifying benefit’ eg. Employment and Support Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Statutory Sick Pay, Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance.

There are other ‘elements’ for lone parents, couples, people aged 50+ and people who use registered or approved childcare.

The Tax Credits Helpline has more information. Call 0845 300 3900.
