Action for M.E. launches Children's Services Team today

April 03, 2017

Today marks the launch of our Children’s Services Team, a dedicated team for children, young people, parents/family and carers affected by M.E.

We’ve set up a dedicated Children and Young People section on our website, which offers information on living with M.E., education, support and how the illness may affect your life for young people, along with information for parents and carers on how to support a young person with M.E. and what support options are available to them and you as their carer.

You can find the Children and Young People section here.

Anyone who needs information, signposting and support can contact our Information and Support Officers for all enquiries except specialist welfare advice. You can call Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, on 0117 927 9551, or send an email.

Our Welfare Advice and Support Service will continue to offer advice on all welfare benefits including information on applying for Disability Living Allowance for under 16s, Personal Independence Payments for over 16s, and Carers Allowance. You can contact our specialist welfare adviser on 0800 138 6544 or by email

The service is open from 10am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 5.30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 2pm to 5pm on Fridays. There are also appointment slots that can be booked in advance for 10.30am to 12.30pm on Fridays. These can be booked by contacting our Information and Support Officers on 0117 927 9551.

We have also set up two new message boards within our M.E. Friends Online forum – one for carers and parents, and another for young adults aged 18-26, both of which can be accessed via the forum hub on our homepage.

Two other private forums - one for under-18s and one for parents and carers of young people with M.E. – will be set up on the Action for M.E. website separately from M.E. Friends Online. These will be members-only forums (ie. users will need to be members of Action for M.E.) that are accessed separately from each other. The aim is to launch the new forums by Wednesday 12 April, or sooner if we can.
