Action for M.E.'s Avril presents at Self-Management Week
September 28, 2020
Join Action for M.E. as we speak at Alliance’s self-management event this Thursday (1 October) as part of Self-Management Week, running today until Sunday.
This year’s ‘My Wellbeing, My Life’ theme features a variety of events aimed at highlighting the benefits that self-management can bring. All events are online and you can register by emailing smw@alliance-scotland.org.uk
Action for M.E.’s Avril McLean will be presenting at the 'Impact and Influence: creating the space for self-management’ event. Avril’s presentation will focus on the importance of helping people with M.E. to have their stories heard as well as working to improve how we support them. Ahead of her presentation, Avril says:
“I am happy to be able to share how stories helped our mentors and mentees to manage their wellbeing and lives better, feel less alone and most importantly feel understood.”
The Mentor M.E. project, which was funded by Alliance’s ‘Transforming Self-Management in Scotland’ fund has provided a space where people can share their stories with their peers who either live with M.E. or care for someone with the illness. Mentees tell us they feel acknowledged, understood, and accepted, while mentors have acknowledged how the project helped them to see that following advice can be harder than giving advice.
We hope to see you there!
