BEIS provide further support for households this Winter

August 11, 2022

As the UK approaches an unprecedented energy crisis this Winter, the National Energy Action predicts that 8.7 million UK households will be in fuel poverty. This is double the 4.5 million households reported last year, in October 2021.

On Friday, under The Energy Bills Support Scheme, The Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy announced an extra support package for households across the UK. This included a £400 energy bills discount to support households this winter. The discount will be administered by energy suppliers and paid to consumers over 6-month instalments from October 2022.

The discount you receive will be based on the eligibility criteria found on the Government website here.

Sonya Chowdhury, Chief Executive of Action for M.E. said:

“The unprecedented cost of living crisis is having a huge impact on thousands of lives across the UK, and disproportionately affects those with long-term, chronic health conditions such as M.E. We are pleased to see the Government taking clear action in supporting households most in need this Winter but whilst the £400 will go a long way in doing so, we are yet to see greater support for those most affected by the crisis."
