Our fundraiser of the week is Bethany Ollier and her team, who are taking part in this year's Walk With M.E. event.
Walk with M.E. is a sponsored team walk, specially designed for people affected by M.E. and their friends and families. This year, every penny raised through Walk with M.E. is being doubled.
It’s the brainchild of Action for M.E. fundraiser Natalie, who was diagnosed in 2010. Twelve months on, Natalie has kindly agreed to us launching Walk with M.E. 2018 – and we’d love you to get involved.
Bethany said: "As soon as I heard about Walk with M.E I wanted to get involved! I have had M.E since October 2015. It has had a huge impact on my life, I went from being very active to being bedbound.
"M.E. (myalgic encephalomyelitis) is also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, however there's a lot more to it than just fatigue. I am always in pain, constantly feel drained, have sleep problems, palpitations, dizziness, headaches and cognitive problems.
"My symptoms have improved slightly and I can now get out and about if I rest and pace myself, but this will still be a huge challenge! There is no way I could walk one million steps on my own, but luckily I will have my lovely team to help me out.
"Any donation would be amazing, you would be helping to fund vital information and support services for people with M.E."
You can support Bethany via her JustGiving page.
We're asking our supporters to set up Walk with M.E. teams, who will each walk a total of one million steps over 100 hundred days, ending on M.E. Awareness Day. That’s an average of 10,000 steps per day, which is “quite achievable for most, but a lot for someone like me,” explains Natalie.
