Our fundraiser of the week is Louise Fuller, who is running the London Marathon for us next year because her son has M.E.
Talking about his experiences of the illness and her reasons for running, Louise said: "Over the past 10 years, my son has become increasingly debilitated by M.E. I always had running the London Marathon in the back of my mind, as something I'd like to do 'one day', but I wasn't a runner and wasn't even that fit until last year.
"In October 2015, I attended a very motivating course through work, during which I decided I would run the London Marathon for Action for M.E. This charity has been a source of support, mainly through the website, for my family over the years. At this time I could barely run for 10 minutes without stopping and didn't know how I was going to achieve my goal, but knew I would get there somehow!
"Those first few weeks of running were difficult and many times I felt I couldn't go on but I used my son and all those people with M.E. as my inspiration to keep me running. After all, I had a choice whether I stopped or continued, my son has no choice because M.E. has taken that away from him. I know he would love to take long walks with our dog, run if he wanted and most of all to ride his speedy road bike up and down hills. Instead, he now uses a mobility scooter if he ventures outside...he has no other choice!
"Each day every person with M.E. faces their own marathon, whether that is just lifting their head off the pillow, getting out of bed and managing to shower or being able to go out to work on a regular basis...and everything in between.
"By sponsoring me you will help fund vital research into M.E. and provide ongoing support to those people, and their families, like mine, who are affected by this cruel, cruel condition."
