Congratulations to our Fundraiser of the Week, Scarlett Tomes, who will be taking on the Oxford Half Marathon next month.
Scarlett is running for her mum, who was diagnosed with M.E. back in 2006.
“We still don’t know what caused it, but in those first couple of years M.E. affected my mum in a way I never wish to see again – she was bed-bound for some time, struggled to do simple daily tasks and appeared vacant.
“Over the years, she’s slowly got better, learned to manage her symptoms and even managed to go to uni and become a fully qualified Architect as of last year! She is not fully recovered, because M.E. affects different people differently, and while some people make good progress and may recover, others can remain ill for a number of years.
“Perhaps one day I’ll be able to do this run with her.”
We’d like to say a big thank you to Scarlett for choosing to fundraise for us, wish her luck in her half marathon, and say congratulations to her mum for getting her degree.
