Our fundraisers of the week are mother and daughter team, Elizabeth and Sally Keyworth, who are helping us celebrate 30 years of Action for M.E. with some simple, fun challenges you can do from your bed, chair, home or garden.
Elizabeth cares for her daughter Sally, who has had M.E. for over 25 years. Together they have designed 21 ‘mini challenges’, along with pin badge rewards.
Elizabeth explains: “We read about the 30 year celebrations in InterAction magazine. Action for M.E. has helped us a lot through their telephone helpline, which was really useful and supportive, and so we decided to create a fun challenge to raise money for the charity.”
The challenge is suitable for everyone, says Elizabeth, “from the mild to severely affected, carers, family and friends – so all can feel included in the celebrations.”
Challenges include making paper aeroplanes, taking a photograph of something that makes you smile, tiddlywinks sports, making a hand puppet from a sock, plus ‘keep fit’ exercises using only your fingers and toes!
“When you’ve completed five of the challenges, you can hold your own 30-minute celebration party – and award yourself a pin badge!” says Elizabeth. “We hope the challenge is fun for people with M.E. and supporters as well as raising money.”
We’d love to hear how you get on; you can email us with your challenge stories and photos, and we’ll include a selection in the next issue of InterAction.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Elizabeth and Sally for their creative and positive fundraising challenge, and good luck to everyone who joins in.
