Healthwatch England has launched an investigation into how long it takes disabled and unwell people to be assessed for social care support after it emerged that some people in Cambridgeshire were having to wait up to 47 weeks for their assessment.
It also found that people on the Isle of Wight were experiencing frequent delays in getting adult social care plan reviews completed.
After Healthwatch revealed this information, Cambridge County Council moved to recruit extra staff to reduce waiting times and the new Isle of Wight Director of Adult Services has developed a “robust plan to clear the backlog of care reviews”, Healthwatch says.
Healthwatch now wants to find out how widespread the issue is and bring their findings to the attention of those who make decisions about social care policy if necessary.
If you or someone you know has experienced a delay in receiving a social care assessment, please get in touch with your local Healthwatch to share your story. You can find your nearest Healthwatch via this handy map.
