Lifting of Covid restrictions today

April 01, 2022

Responding to the lifting of the Covid restrictions today (1 April), Action for M.E.’s Ruth Richardson, Director of Business Support and Development said:

“For many people with M.E. today’s announcement that Covid restrictions are to be lifted is causing considerable anxiety.

We would encourage people to be responsible and considerate towards people with chronic conditions like M.E. in their personal choices and decisions. Continuing to wear masks in crowded areas, hand washing and testing if you have tests available to you will all contribute to a safer environment for the medically vulnerable in our communities.

We are particularly disappointed that people with M.E. have not been included within the categories of people eligible for free lateral flow tests.

Free lateral flow tests have enabled people to test to make sure that they are Covid-free before they visit friends or receive guests. Removing this access and reassurance will create further barriers and enhance the isolation and loneliness that too many people with M.E. already experience.”
