NICE guideline review: for children and young people
February 14, 2019
The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) are reviewing their guidance titled, “children and young people with disabilities and severe complex needs: integrated health and social care support”. Action for M.E. has responded to the draft scope which explains the areas they will look into and the questions they will seek to answer. You can read the draft scope here.
In our response we have highlighted:
- The need for consideration to be given to the fluctuating nature of conditions such as M.E. to ensure they have access to support as soon as their condition becomes severe
- the transitional arrangements for children and young people when they transfer to adult services
- the need for attention on joined-up services to ensure children are able to access all the services they are entitled to.
We feel this guidance will be important to ensure children and young people with M.E. have access to services and support. NICE will now review the feedback we have submitted and publish a response which we will share in due course. They are also recruiting for professional members to the committee. If you, or someone you know, would like to find out more about how to do this or what positions are available, please go here.
