Regional Advocacy Service

Next year we will launch our new Regional Advocacy Service which will cover the Midlands and South West to ensure that people affected by M.E. are able to secure services, care and financial support available to them. This service will also raise understanding with professionals to build their capacity and ensure they are able to meet the needs of people with M.E. in the future.
We are excited to begin recruitment for two Regional Advocacy Officers to join the Advocacy Team in January. Both posts offer a unique opportunity to deliver advocacy work which is specific to supporting people with M.E. with health and social care advocacy needs, as well as working alongside our existing welfare service to deliver advocacy for people who are having severe difficulty accessing benefits and employment support.

“This is an exciting step in the development of the Advocacy Service and we are hoping to attract applicants with experience of delivering advocacy which empowers clients through collaborative action planning and goal setting. We are breaking new ground with this service as there is a need for a specialised, widely-available advocacy service for people with M.E. so this is a really innovative service for an advocacy professional to be involved in. Research tells us that 23 percent of people with M.E. have ever accessed an advocate so this project is much needed in order to reduce barriers to advocacy for our client group. As the service develops, there will be opportunities for the team to work together, using their skills and experience to influence service design and through collaborative working with our steering group, we will ensure that what we do responds to the needs of people with M.E.”
