Our new fundraising event Walk with M.E. has exceeded all our expectation to raise over £3,300!
Walk with M.E. is a team sponsored walk, with each team member contributing as many steps as they are able towards a single combined goal over 100 days. £3,304 has been raised so far by 15 teams that took part between Thursday 1 and Saturday 12 May, with two of our teams taking part in honour of a friend whose M.E. is so severe that they have been left completely bedbound.
Ella’s teams fundraising page includes a moving tribute to their friend and inspiration, Kate:
“What can we say about our friend Kate? She is quite simply one of the best people we know. Kind, caring, loving, thinks of others, funny and all other lovely things.”
“Although we knew that Kate was diagnosed with ME in her 20s, we didn't really understand what it meant until last year when we all witnessed her relapse. We saw first-hand the way it completely turns her world upside down and the impact it has on her and her family. We saw her desperation and fear of her relapse and there was absolutely nothing we could do but reassure her that she was strong enough to face this and that she was not alone.”
“Kate, you brave woman who still continues to put others before yourself, even in the worst throes of the illness, we love you and we will never leave you. This one is for you! ❤❤”
Team members Sophie, Alex, John, Ella, Peter, Benji and Gary walked a total of 1,006,333 steps, raising an amazing £111 for our work.
Others, like Bethany, have M.E. themselves and say taking part with a team allowed them to do what they couldn’t otherwise.
“As soon as I heard about Walk with M.E I wanted to get involved! I have had M.E since October 2015. It has had a huge impact on my life, I went from being very active to being bedbound.”
“My symptoms have improved slightly and I can now get out and about if I rest and pace myself, but this will still be a huge challenge! There is no way I could walk one million steps on my own, but luckily I will have my lovely team to help me out.”
Bethany’s team raised £292 in total, and nearly doubled the step target by walking a total of 1,865,410.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to everybody who took part in Walk with M.E. this year for your generosity, dedication and support for both our work and people with M.E.
