We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our Work, Health and Disability survey. The survey attracted a brilliant reaction, with more than 600 people responding to share their experiences of M.E. and employment.
Your input will shape our response to the government's recent green paper which focuses on supporting disabled people in their employment. The paper is intended to draw out views from disabled people, employers and health professionals on how each sector can respond to the challenges disabled people face in securing or retaining appropriate work. The proposals it generates are intended to form part of the government's efforts to reduce the disability employment gap, whereby the employment rate for disabled people is 48% compared to the non-disabled people rate of 80%.
Our response to the green paper will highlight the experiences of people with M.E. and the health and employment professionals who work with them, helping us to give a thorough response with practical proposals for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to better support claimants.
Action for M.E.'s 2016-2021 strategy sets out our intention to facilitate more influence and better understanding of M.E., in order to inspire action at all levels. Responding to government consultations, such as the green paper, provides us with an opportunity to set out how people with M.E. will be affected by the proposals and to represent the voices of people with M.E.
