Our Summer Appeal has launched

We know that significant change is needed for people with ME; and it's needed now.

At Action for ME, we know that change doesn't just happen - it has to be made. That's why, this year, we're running a Summer Appeal and hoping to raise £25,000 to fund vital change for people of all ages affected by ME.

With your help, we can achieve:

  • Changes to our scientific understanding of ME, through more high-quality, biomedical research
  • Changes to the help and support available to children and adults with ME, and their loved ones
  • Changes in attitudes towards ME - including those of politicians, health and social care professionals, and educators.

By donating or sharing this campaign between 20-30 June, you will be helping to bring much-needed change for people with ME.

The money raised through the summer appeal will go towards our Services and other projects, including research, to improve the lives of people with ME, including:

  • Providing information, support, and resources to anyone affected by ME, including carers
  • Reducing the isolation experienced by young people and adults with ME through access to our peer support services
  • Providing Advocacy support to adults with ME, ensuring their human rights are respected by professionals involved in their care/support
  • Offering healthcare bursaries to people with ME so that they can continue to access ME-informed doctors, physiotherapists, and counsellors
  • Accelerating much-needed breakthrough ME research through our Genetics Centre of Excellence
  • Inspiring the next generation of ME researchers through our Future Leaders programme
  • Educating healthcare and education professionals on the reality of living with ME
  • Growing our Parliamentary Champions network to increase awareness and understanding within Parliament, amplifying the voices of people with ME.

If you're able to, we would like to ask you to create and share your own video to help raise awareness of our Summer Appeal and share the one change that you want to see for ME. You can use the below script, where we have listed a few examples to get you started:

"By supporting Action for ME's Summer Appeal, you can join us in helping provide hope for people affected by ME.

There is still no diagnostic test, no effective, evidenced-based treatments and no cure for ME.

A lack of understanding of the condition from professionals can deny people with ME the support they need.

But with your help, this can change.

The one change I want to see for ME is (choose from the list below or choose your own)

  • An increase in strategic research funding for ME
  • Improved health and social care support for people with ME
  • Improved support in schools for young people with ME
  • Better supports for adults with ME to reduce isolation
  • Improved welfare and social support for adults with ME
  • Better training and understanding of ME among healthcare professionals
  • More MPs to join Action for ME's Parliamentary Champions to increase awareness and understanding of ME in Parliament.

By donation or sharing your own video today, you can help create much-needed change for people affected by ME."
