Action for M.E. pays tribute to Keith Anderson

November 01, 2023

Action for M.E. pays tribute to the life and work of Keith Anderson, M.E. Nurse Consultant in NHS Fife who offered life-altering support for people with M.E. from the Ladybank Clinic in Fife.

Keith died recently following a long illness. We are deeply saddened, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, loved ones and colleagues.

As the only specialist Allied Health Professional in M.E. in Scotland, Keith had a vital role in supporting and reassuring his patients. He also contributed to informing other professionals about M.E. and its devastating impact. Keith started to develop this specialist service in Fife in 2004 and his passion for supporting people with M.E. led him to collaborate with M.E. charities in Scotland and beyond to advance knowledge and understanding of this disease. The picture shows Keith with Gail Ross, SNP MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross (Constituency) 2016 to 2021 at Action for M.E.’s Scottish Parliament event in 2018.

More recently, Keith used his specialist knowledge to support people living with long COVID

Along with representatives from other M.E. charities in Scotland, our colleague Avril McLean attended Keith’s funeral earlier this week to honour the contribution his work made and to offer our respects and condolences to his loved ones.

“My colleagues and I feel privileged to have known Keith, and proud to have worked with him to improve access to vital information, care and support for many with M.E. in Scotland,” says our CEO Sonya Chowdhury. “His passing leaves a hole in many people’s lives.”

One of the last pieces of work that Keith collaborated with us on was this podcast on Nursing and M.E. We hope that Keith’s legacy with live on in this work and in the hearts of the people whose lives he touched and graced with his caring and kindness.
