Fundraiser of the week: our virtual London Marathon team

October 09, 2020

On a miserably rainy Sunday last weekend, not only did Joe, Steve, David, Jeanette, Phil and Sophie decide to head outside, they took part in the Virgin Money London Marathon: The 40th Race – a virtual alternative to the mass participation spectacle which had been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. They’re our fundraisers of the week.

The Action for M.E. team completed their respective 26.2 mile journeys on a route of their choosing, but without the usual support of the thousands of spectators that usually attend the event year on year; making this incredible feat just that extra bit harder. One of our runners, Jeanette, said:

“I had amazing support from family & friends on the day. I even had mile marker signs that my sister did for me! The weather here by some miracle was perfect, no rain, not too warm or too cold & the sun stayed behind the clouds”

With sponsorship still coming in, they will soon have raised an incredible £5,000 between them which is a serious achievement, all things considered. Joe said of the support he received:

“It means a great deal to myself, to Laura (Joe's partner who has M.E.) and to the thousands of people who deal with this illness every day.”

Thank you all for your wonderful efforts. We’d also like to say a huge thank you to the rest of our runners for their commitment and who will be taking part in the London Marathon next year, following this year’s rescheduling.
