Holly: "Walk with M.E. seemed like the perfect fit"

January 14, 2020

Holly has been unable to leave her house since 2012. She told us:

“M.E. has dramatically altered my life and the lives of those around me, especially my parents, who had to also become my carers. M.E. can make those who you love feel very helpless. They are desperate to make things better for you and take it away, but they can’t. I want to do anything I can to help others with M.E.”

Holly was looking for a way to fundraise that didn’t exacerbate her symptoms, or interfere with her symptom management plan. Then she discovered Walk with M.E., Action for M.E.’s accessible team sponsored walk.

“I’d been thinking about fundraising for a while and Walk with M.E. seemed like the perfect fit. I can join in with the small amount of steps I can do, and my family and friends can be a part of it as well. Fundraising like this really helps people to realise there is something really important they can do to help.”

Holly's team raised more than £800 last year. Could you lead a team for Walk with M.E. 2020?

Each team aims to walk a collective total of one million steps in 100 days. Anyone can take part. If you are only able to walk a few steps each day, each step still counts. If you aren’t able to walk any steps at all, you can spread the word to increase sponsorship, and inspire your team to go the distance to support our vital work.

Any funds you raise through Walk with M.E. will be doubled, thanks to a generous family trust who have offered match money raised.

Walk with M.E. starts on Saturday 1 February, and ends 100 days later on M.E. Awareness Day, Tuesday 12 May. Teams are welcome to join later, though the earlier you sign up, the more steps you can fit in and the longer you have to raise money.

You’ll receive a welcome pack and fundraising materials, and have the support of the fundraising team every step of the way, plus we’ll be sharing regular updates as well as competitions and stories.
