Mum Sarah: "It completely turned our situation around"

January 07, 2020

It's two years since Sarah's son Finlay, now 10, became ill with the flu, but didn't seem to be getting better. Four months later, Finlay was diagnosed with M.E.

Sarah, who had the illness when she was younger, says: "I was devastated about this, because I remembered that feeling of helplessness you have when you are diagnosed."

The family came to Action for M.E. for information and support, and Sarah was put in touch with our Head of Children and Young People's Services, Mary-Jane Willows.

"She helped me to put together an individual health plan and educational health plan for Finlay and she gave me lots of advice about what the school and council should be doing and what our rights were, which empowered us to make changes," says Sarah. "It completely turned our situation around and meant that we were able to start working with the school, rather than against it."

We are here for Sarah and Finlay, and for people like you. You can read the family's full story in Candis Magazine, and find out how we can help.
