How can I register for the 2016 UK CMRC conference?

Registration is now open for the third annual UK CFS/M.E. Research Collaborative (CMRC) conference, which will be held on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 September 2016 at Novotel, Newcastle Airport. The first day of the conference is open to researchers and all CMRC members. Day two is open to researchers only.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Dr David Patrick, University of British Columbia, Canada
  • Dr Sarah Knight, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Australia.
  • Prof David Jones, Newcastle University, UK

More speakers are in the process of being confirmed and oral presentations will be invited following peer review of submitted abstracts.

Plenary sessions on day one will cover:

  • clinical trials
  • big data, biomarkers and stratification
  • workshops which will include: community-based participatory research; severe M.E.; and a joint workshop on Postural Tachycardia Syndrome with PoTs UK
  • presentations from researchers funded by the Medical Research Council

Plenary sessions on day two include:

  • new and unpublished research
  • children and young people
  • the Anne Faulkner Memorial Lecture.

Day one, including early evening drinks reception, is open to all delegates and will close at 7.30pm. To provide space for unpublished data to be shared and for new collaborations to be explored, day two of the conference is open to researchers only, as is the dinner the night before.

The programme will be updated once new speakers are confirmed and will be made available on this page.

Abstracts are now invited, with a deadline of Thursday 30 June. Poster presentations will be invited following peer review alongside oral presentations for those that are of high quality. The CMRC has created more oral presentation slots this year given the excellent standard of submissions last year. This will offer further opportunities for sharing insight and learning from research currently being undertaken.

Attending the conference as a patient, carer or advocate

Anyone affected by M.E. who isn’t a research professional or research student can attend the conference as long as they are an Associate Member of the CMRC. There is no joining fee for Associate Membership.

This year, we are asking Associate Members who attend the conference to make a financial contribution of £25 (the cost of organising the event per person is a lot higher than this - around £75 - but we don't want to charge you that much). In the event that we secure enough sponsorship, this fee may be reimbursed.

To attend the conference, please:

  • join the CMRC (free of charge) if you are not an Associate Member already
  • then register for your conference place.
