ITV News | ME on the Isle of Man

3 April 2024

Reporter, Joshua Stokes, speaks to Thomase Cleator, a farmer from the Isle of Man, who has lived with ME since the age of 12.

“In a sense, I will always say in stole my childhood.

Some days, I didn’t have the energy to brush my teeth myself.”

In the article, Thomase discusses growing up with ME whilst living and working on a farm and how his ME has taken away his work and travel aspirations.

"I wanted to be an agricultural consultant, I wanted to travel the world, and even to this day it's unrealistic to move away from home and work on my own without a support system there."

The piece, which also aired on ITV1 this evening (03 April), also focuses on Manx Care, one of the few places in the British Isles with a service offering specialist treatment to those with ME or Long Covid, which has now been open for its first full year.
