We are pleased to announce Wendy Chamberlain MP and Graeme Downie MP as the latest members of our Parliamentary Champions Network!
On joining the network, Wendy said:
“I’m honoured to become one of Action for ME’s champions and advocate for those with ME across the country.
It is clear in my constituency of North East Fife in Scotland that there is a clear lack of any strategy for ME/CFS which has led to the absence of specialists in Scotland and has left many feeling abandoned by the healthcare system as they are forced to face their diagnosis unsupported.
I hope that specialist training can be implemented soon to increase the number of specialists in Scotland and that the Delivery Plan will be implemented without further delay.
Nobody should be left isolated or without support in treating their condition.”
Graeme also said:
"I am proud to stand as a parliamentary champion for Action for ME and to support the thousands of people across Scotland living with ME. The current level of care is simply not good enough. This is true across NHS Fife, Scotland and the UK as a whole. We owe it to people living with ME to push for better, evidence-based services that reflect the seriousness of this illness. I will continue to press the Westminster and Scottish Government to prioritise investment in specialist care and ensure those affected are no longer left behind."
We look forward to working with Wendy and Graeme and the rest of our Champions to ensure that people affected by ME receive better care.
Our network of Parliamentary Champions are our 'go-to' individuals when engaging with Government and building support for our campaigns more broadly in Parliament and beyond.
Our champions are supportive of our work to create a world without ME and give a voice to the estimated 1.3m people in the UK who live with ME or ME-like symptoms, including post-exertional malaise.
