Sajid Javid in The Times

20 July 2024

Ahead of the landmark inquiry into the death of Maeve Boothby O'Neill, Sajid Javid, former MP and Health Secretary has called for Labour finish the work he began in 2021-22, stating that ME patients have been "left behind for too long".

Javid told The Times:

“For too long, people with ME have been left behind. Patients and families are too often overlooked and the condition goes undiagnosed. Two years ago, I launched the first ever cross-government strategy on ME. Whilst an interim strategy was brought forward, the final strategy remains unpublished — delayed by the general election.

“The party of government may have changed, but the urgency to act remains. There is clear action that can be taken, and an entire community looking for hope. There will be important lessons to learn from the tragic experience of Maeve Boothby-O’Neill. This new government should listen carefully, and then finally deliver this new strategy without delay.”
