Nobody's Empire book launch, Bristol
October 14, 2024
On Saturday, our Chief Executive, Sonya had the pleasure of hosting Stuart Murdoch’s book launch of his autobiographical novel, Nobody’s Empire. The experiences of Nobody’s Empire’s main character, Stephen, are heavily shaped by Stuart’s own life and his relationship with his ME, something that him and Sonya discussed more during the ‘In Conversation’ session during the evening. Stuart likened his early years of having ME to having to having to ‘step out of a river’, with the river representing the energy levels that young people without ME have. He referenced the memories of slowly having to ‘give things up’ when he first became ill, losing friends and hobbies as his health worsened, something which so many people with ME sadly experience. Stuart also discussed some of the reasons behind writing Nobody’s Empire, expressing his desire for readers without an experience of ME to understand more about the condition and those with an experience of ME, to feel a sense of ‘hope and belief’ that things can improve. While the venue couldn’t facilitate live streaming of this event, Stuart has kindly agreed to a book launch webinar with Sonya and Action for ME so our community can enjoy hearing from Stuart and learn more about Nobody’s Empire. We will let you know a date when we have one agreed. You can also read more about Stuart’s experiences and Nobody’s Empire in our recent InterAction magazine. The book can be purchased, here. |
