Our CEO meets with Mims Davies

May 17, 2024

Yesterday, our Chief Executive, Sonya Chowdhury, met with the Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work, Mims Davies MP, to discuss the recently announced consultation on PIP reform and how people with ME can be better supported by the welfare system.

The meeting follows interaction Action for M.E. had with the Minister around a recent parliamentary debate on PIP reform, and builds on our wider engagement with the Department for Work and Pensions, having met with the Minister’s predecessor last year.

During the meeting, Sonya explained the difficulties people with ME and other fluctuating illnesses often face accessing benefits and how people with ME have incorrectly been offered health advice during PIP assessments. The Minister was very receptive and emphasised the importance of the ongoing consultation on PIP reform.

We will continue to engage with the Department on creating a fairer and more supportive welfare system.

You can respond to the consultations on fit note reform and PIP reform individually.

We will provide an organisational response and will invite views from the community to help shape this. We will share more news next week on this.
