Runs, walks and high-energy events

Action for M.E., like so many other charities, relies on our brilliant fundraisers taking part in key fundraising events to support our vital work. This not only includes iconic events such as the London Marathon, Great North Run and other challenge events, but also our annual accessible sponsored walk, Walk with M.E. and lower-energy events such as bake sales.

We are delighted to be able to offer charity places for several fundraising events, please find the details below for our London Marathon and Great North Run teams, which we are currently recruiting for. We would also love to hear from you if you have your own fundraising event in mind, or if you’d like some advice or inspiration. We’ll be here to support you every step of the way whilst you make a real difference to the lives of those affected by M.E.

We couldn’t do what we do without our amazing fundraisers, so thank you.

We have filled our team for 2022, but watch this space as we will be recruiting for our April 2023 London Marathon team soon! If you'd like to register your interest in the 2023 race, please email

Other ideas from our amazing fundraisers

These aren’t your only options for fundraising – the sky is the limit when it comes to fundraising ideas!

Here are some creative fundraising ideas from our past fundraisers:

  • Ruth, aged 9, and her best friend Alice did a sponsored cycle ride to raise funds and awareness, as Ruth’s Aunty Bekky has M.E. Ruth and Alice raised a brilliant £527! Ruth said “When I think about M.E. I feel like I want there to be a cure coming for my Auntie and to all the people out there with M.E.”
  • Friends Jake, Ian, Paul, Dan, Chris, Rich and Matt took on a mammoth challenge to run 2280 miles together, the equivalent distance of Route 66! They were running on behalf of their close friend, who has M.E. When they crossed the finish line, after raising a phenomenal £4,455, Jake said: “We're very much aware as we cross our virtual finish line, that those that suffer from M.E. / CFS have no finish line, and live with their illness every day. We hope that our efforts show that people really do care, and want to help and raise awareness.”
  • Carl, Alex and Chris created their very own “Golf Marathon”, completing 72 holes of golf in one day and walking over 26 miles, to fundraise on behalf of their friend Tom, who has M.E. The friends raised a fantastic £1765.

If you have a fundraising idea and you’d like some advice or support to make it a reality, please get in touch - we'd love to hear from you!
