Leaving a gift in your Will

Help make our vision a reality – A world without ME

The next time that you make or update your Will, please consider the difference you can make by remembering Action for ME.  Join us in creating a better future – a world without ME.

Gifts in Wills not only helps us provide support for people affected by ME today, but ensure we can continue working to secure change for future generations.

Leaving just 1% to charity can make a huge difference, so those closest to you still inherit 99%, but you can leave any sum or percentage that suits you.

The information you need to remember Action for ME in your Will are at the bottom of this page.

"I have seen first hand the catastrophic effect of ME on sufferers lives, and those who love them, with millions affected worldwide. It won't be quick, easy or cheap to find a cure. I am leaving money to Action for ME in my Will because they are trying to do the small 1-1 assist for sufferers, all the way through to the BIG, striving to get substantial changes made by Governments and the WHO for ME recognition, treatment and cure. My money will help them, so will yours."
Colin, Action for ME supporter

How one gift funded groundbreaking ME research

In 2022, we received a legacy gift which was used to fund a research project looking at potential factors in blood which may provide clues as to the causes of ME, and therefore a basis for diagnostic testing.

A lack of diagnostic testing and the role of mitochondria in ME were identified as research priorities by the ME/CFS Priority Setting Partnership back in 2022, so we took the decision to use this gift to fund this project which was proposed by Audrey Ryback at the University of Edinburgh.

Audrey’s research began in 2023 and aimed to replicate a study (Fluge et al, 2016) which had previously found a change in the mitochondria of healthy muscle cells when they were exposed to the blood of people with ME. Mitochondria produce the energy necessary for the survival and proper functioning our cells, and there is already considerable scientific evidence of abnormalities in the way that energy is produced and used by cells in people with ME/CFS. You can read more about Audrey’s research here, and find an update on the results here.

Gifts in wills have the potential to bring tangible, positive change for people with ME/CFS through research such as Audrey's,  moving us closer to a meaningful and easy to measure diagnostic test for the condition.

Any size gift, even just 1% of your estate, could help secure real change for people affected by ME, including future generations.
