Long Covid research breakthrough - PrecisionLife

7 March 2025

PrecisionLife, our LOCOME partners, recently announced a breakthrough in long Covid research.

Working with the Metrodora Institute and Metrodora Foundation, PrecisionLife have successfully reproduced key genetic risk factors for long Covid across diverse populations.

In the previous analysis, from the UK Sano GOLD long COVID study, PrecisionLife researchers became the first to identify genes that were highly associated with long COVID - opening the door to potential precision diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to address the unmet medical need by targeting these genes.

Now replicated, these findings:

  • reinforce long Covid's biological basis
  • create new opportunities for precision diagnostics
  • create a stronger understanding of the shared biology between long Covid and ME.

Steve Gardner, CEO of PrecisionLife, said on the announcement:

"These findings redefine our understanding of the genetics of long COVID, laying the foundation for precision medicine that could revolutionize care for millions."
