62% of people surveyed say they are not confident that their GP understands ME and there is a huge gap in specialist healthcare services, with many people having to look outside of the NHS to access care.
This is not how things should be.
Supporting us during the Big Give Christmas Challenge will help us educate the next generation of doctors on the everyday realities of ME through a medical student essay competition.
Entrants will complete a Learn about ME training module and write a 500-word essay outlining their most important learning point.
Bhanu Wahi-Singh won the Learn about ME essay competition held in Scotland earlier this year. Bhanu is studying medicine at the University of Edinburgh and is passionate about the interface between clinical work and research.
Bhanu's essay has been published in the June issue of the Journal of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and he recently co-authored an article in the Lancet.
With you help, we can work to ensure medical professionals better-understand how to care for people with ME.
We interviewed Bhanu about his experience of taking part in the medical essay competition and its importance.
