Free CPD ME module for GPs now updated

2 June 2026

Learna’s free highly rated CPD-accredited module on ME, available for GPs and healthcare professionals, has been updated to reflect evolving biomedical understanding of ME.

The CPD-accredited module was created by Dr Nina Muirhead and updated as part of Action for ME’s Learn about ME project, funded by the Scottish Government.

Dr Nina Muirhead says: “One of the most common mistakes clinicians make is underestimating ME/CFS. Evidence shows there is a huge impact on the quality of life of patients and their family members. Patients have been ignored and stigmatised and those who are most severely impacted are least able to access the healthcare that they need. Scientific understanding of post-viral disease and associated symptoms and syndromes is revolutionising how patients should be treated.”

Action for ME is now working with Nina, alongside Learn about ME project partners ME Association and #MEAction Scotland, to promote the online module to GPs across Scotland, and produce complementary podcasts and webinars featuring insight and guidance from patients and professionals.

The module, which is free to access and complete, contains 10 clinical case studies and is designed for GPs and healthcare professionals to improve their understanding of:

  • the main diagnostic features of ME
  • identifying post-exertional malaise as a key feature of ME
  • recognising the importance of early, accurate diagnosis
  • identifying conditions related to ME, such as POTs and Long Covid
  • evaluating the needs of individuals when creating symptom management plans.

You can learn more about the module and the complementary resources here in Action for ME’s professional development resource. Our thirteenth Learn about ME podcast is coming soon!
